A new year of exciting exhibits and events at PAMA

BRAMPTON, ON (Jan. 11, 2024) - The Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) invites you to visit us in historic downtown Brampton to experience our exciting new 2024 exhibitions and events - Behind Bars, The Suitcase Project, art workshops and free family activities.

New winter exhibitions:

  • Explore the newly revised display, Behind Bars: The History of the Peel County Jail. This updated exhibition aims to take a thoughtful and compassionate approach to the 110-year history of Peel County Jail. Visitors will hear the stories of those who spent time within the walls of the jail, learn about why the jail was built and see how a double cell might have looked like in the early 1900s.
  • We want to hear from you! PAMA and the Indigenous Sharing Circle is asking for public input for the upcoming 2024 permanent exhibition Walking Together. Find the display in the museum lobby at PAMA to get all the details.
  • Discover The Suitcase ProjectJan. 27 - Sept. 8

Travelling exhibition from the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre.

In 1942, over 23,000 Japanese Canadians living on the west coast were uprooted from their homes and placed in internment camps. In this impactful exhibition, over 80 fourth- and fifth-generation Japanese Canadians and Americans share what they would pack if forcibly removed from their homes today. They were given one day to assemble their things, similar to what many Japanese Canadians faced in 1942. "The idea wasn't just about what people would pack, but also what they are forced to leave behind."
