Apple a Day Outdoor Banners

Nov. 21, 2024 – March 30, 2025

Brampton artist Meegan Lim’s Apple a Day highlights food insecurity in today’s world of high inflation. Reminiscent of Jack and the Beanstalk, her artwork shows people climbing a tall tree towards a golden apple, symbolizing the struggle for financial stability. Yet, it also offers hope, demonstrating how communal work effort can create a healthier, more sustainable environment. Now everyone can have their “apple a day.”

Quotes from the Curator and Partner:

PAMA’s large, outdoor banners have an incredible presence in the public sphere and offer a central location to feature work by local artists. It is incumbent upon us to show and celebrate growing talent in our own community like Meegan Lim. Meegan Lim marries so well relevant and serious subject matter, like food insecurity, as is the focus of Apple a Day, with colourful designs reminiscent of children’s book illustrations. She has a talent for telling deeply layered stories through detailed and symbolic imagery. Her work can both spark a child’s imagination and lead to meaningful discussions that resonate with us all.

- Sharona Adamowicz-Clements, Art Gallery Curator, PAMA

Addressing food insecurity through my art has always been a passion, so expanding Apple a Day in a broader context was both exciting and inspiring. This project allowed me to create new illustrations that complement the original piece while also proposing new solutions to its themes.

- Meegan Lim, Artist

Brampton Arts Organization is proud to support Meegan Lim's Apple a Day exhibition that not only celebrates the power of visual storytelling but also addresses pressing issues within Brampton, such as food insecurity and the rising cost of living. Through her vibrant and thoughtful illustrations, Meegan Lim brings these complex topics to life. Her exhibition underscores the vital role that art plays in raising awareness and inspiring action, and we are excited to share it with our community.
