Girl Guides of Canada

Organization

Girl Guides of Canada is the largest organization for girls and women in Canada. Guiding began in Canada in 1910, and the first camping trip was held along the banks of the Credit River in Mississauga. Today, over 76,000 girls are members of a Girl Guide group.

Guiding provides a safe environment for girls to make friends, learn new skills and help make a difference in their community. As Guides complete tasks and challenges, they receive a commemorative badge, including some unique themes like Land Surveyor, Future Voter, Everyday Hero and STEMinist. In 2021, the Staying Connected Challenge was created to encourage girls to reflect and share their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The famous Girl Guide cookies first went on sale in 1929 and continue to be a major fundraising program for the organization. During the Gulf War, every Canadian soldier was given a box of Girl Guide cookies. Canadian astronaut and former Guide, Roberta Bondar took cookies into space!
